It all started in 1979. Interior decorator Peter Gammeter and his seamstress wife Elisabeth Gammeter founded an interior decorating business entitled Gammeter Wohngestaltung or GAW. In 2000 GAW became an Aktiengesellschaft or AG (public limited company), branching out into upholstery in 2001. In 2007 son Roland Gammeter took over at the helm and in 2009 the parquet flooring studio was greatly extended.

In 2011 the warehouse and upholsterer's workshop were moved to a new location and in 2012 GAW took over the Wideg AG upholsterer's department; in 2013 the number of employed floor layers was increased to ten and in 2014 the Top-level value preservation cleaning programme was launched. In 2015 the company focussed on converting and renovating its premises on General-Wille-Strasse in Meilen. In October 2017, the business was moved to Uetikon am See with a new showroom.
